The Role of a Surveyor
Our Chartered Surveyors specialise in residential valuation. We have two teams with one covering London and the other, based in Oxford, covering the south of England. The London team deals with all property types, from studio flats and mansion blocks to town houses and large family homes. tThe Oxford team covers farms, equestrian estates, village and country houses.
Being professionally qualified as Members or Fellows of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is only part of the job description, as property is a people business. Our clients come from all walks of life and they deserve and expect the highest level of service. Consequently, we look for intelligent and well-presented individuals whom can think laterally to help and advise our clients.
From time to time we headhunt qualified surveyors who have the knowledge and expertise we require.

James has been involved in residential property since 1994 when he started as an estate agent. He had a successful agency career having run the sales offices of two prestigious firms. He joined John D Wood & Co. in 2003 and has been Head of Valuation since 2005.

Stephen has been involved with the valuation of property since 2001 when he started with a London and South East regional firm of surveyors and valuers. In 2002 he established his expertise in the valuation of residential properties subject to lease extension or enfranchisement claims under the Leasehold Reform legislation, acting for and against many of the landed estates in prime central London. He joined John D Wood & Co. in 2007 and has been an Associate since 2010, like all our team acting solely on behalf of leaseholders.

Alex specializes in valuations and negotiations for lease extension and enfranchisement claims. He has significant experience acting for leaseholders on all of the major London Estates and further afield. In addition, Alex concentrates on formal valuations of all types of residential property for a wide range of purposes.
Prior to joining John D Wood & Co. in 2007 Alex studied at the University of Cambridge and trained as a Chartered Surveyor at one of Europe's largest firms of property consultants before working for various high net worth individuals and property developers.
