Weybridge in Surrey, which has a population of close to 20,000 residents, is situated in the Borough of Elmbridge at the mouth of the River Wey, from which the town gets its name. With its fast links into London Waterloo, Weybridge is a commuter town, and attracts many people working in the City of London as a consequence.

The town has a number of defined areas including Oatlands Village, Brooklands, St George’s Hill and the shopping area surrounding Monument Hill.

Weybridge has an active community with a vast amount of sports and hobbies available for all ages.

York column is the dominant feature of the Weybridge skyline. It was paid for by the inhabitants of Weybridge and dedicated to the Duchess of York in 1822.

The Brooklands Museum has a fascinating collection of airplanes and cars, including a Concorde Supersonic airplane. Mercedes-Benz World is also located on the Brooklands site, offering test drives on the handling circuit, along with other activities. The Elmbridge Museum is the place to visit for a wealth of information about the local area and its history, going back over 1,000 years.

There are plenty of green open spaces to relax and participate in some fun activities. These include Quadrant and Monument Green, Brooklands Community Park, Oatlands and Churchfields recreation ground.

Weybridge in the early days was a river crossing. In 1537 Henry VIII built the Oatlands Palace and was married to Katherine Howard. However, it was demolished in 1650 with the materials used to line the canal. In 1838, the local railway station was opened, which encouraged a population increase from 930 to nearly 4,000 in 1891. Weybridge officially became a town in 1895 with the development of the Weybridge Urban District Council. In 1974 Elmbridge Borough Council was formed with the towns of Walton and Esher.
