About Kensington

John D Wood & Co. Kensington estate agents are located in a prime location on Kensington Church Street, London W8. A full residential sales, lettings and property management service is available from the office.

Kensington property prices are among the most expensive in London, reflecting the insatiable demand to live in the area and the size of the properties that can be found. There is a real mix of property and architecture types, from spacious family Victorian terraced houses, to artist studios and mansion apartment blocks. Many Kensington homes date back to the Victorian and Georgian era. Some of the grandest properties can be found just off Kensington High Street. Houses are in short supply, but an attractive group of Victorian terraces can be found in “Hillgate village” and The Phillimore Estate, and its surrounding streets. Homes located closer to Kensington Gardens and Holland Park are dominated by converted apartments and generally tend to command a premium.

Kensington is a popular area for families and is surrounded by excellent schools including Fox Hill Primary School, St Mary Abbots Primary School, Holland Park Academy Secondary School, Wetherby, Pembridge Hall and Thomas's Day School. Although very central, Kensington has a fabulous selection of parks and communal gardens, including Holland Park, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, all of which feature an array of recreational facilities including childrens' playgrounds, cricket pitches, tennis courts, football pitches and horse riding.

The area is well serviced by public transport, making it an ideal location for city workers who don't want to commute far. Kensington High Street station sits on the Circle and District lines and Notting Hill Gate station sits on the Circle, District and Central lines. Kensington residents are spoilt for choice in the list of things to do: The Design Museum, The Kensington Farmers Market, Kensington Roof Gardens, The Royal Albert Hall, Opera Holland Park, Kensington Palace and Leighton House Museum are all in the local vicinity. Kensington has also been the home to many notable historical figures including Winston Churchill and Lucian Freud.
