Hotspot for new digital nomads

John D Wood & Co.’s International department reports Lagos on the Western Algarve of Portugal as hosting many new digital nomads since the pandemic began.

Leal Ignatius, International Business Partner at John D Wood & Co. says “These working nomads come from diverse nationalities including the USA & Canada, South America, Australia, along with UK nationals and northern European – with more rentals this year to winter nomad workers who would usually go to Bali, but cannot due to travel restrictions. An individual will typically rent a two bedroom apartment, and a family will look for a three bedroom apartment or villa.”

He adds, “With a property such as this on Boavista Golf and Leisure Resort, Lagos a digital nomad can work from home, from their terrace, overlooking the golf course. Meet friends for lunch at the local beach bar, and work from there through the afternoon. Other great meeting places are cafes and bars in the historic centre of Lagos, or on the marina.

The draw is the ambience of the western Algarve, which provides a great quality of life, with a beach culture, several golf courses, great weather, and a low density population. The area has still retained its Portuguese identity, whilst hosting a diverse international year round population who appreciate that, so it is easy to establish a social circle with similar interests.”

John D Wood & Co.’s International partner based in Lagos says “more purchasers are those who are working remotely in Lagos, and deciding it suits them so much they want to make it a permanent base. Others are making the decision to use Lagos as a base for the next 3 to 5 years and will purchase an investment property, this will initially be for personal use and later become a rental investment.”
