March puts a spring in the seller’s step

With March identified as the strongest month of the year for prospective sellers, what does it mean for buyers?

March has been identified as the strongest month of the year for prospective sellers to come to market, according to Rightmove’s latest data. It was revealed that on average over the last five years, the month had the highest number of buyer enquiries per property for sale as well as a reduced time for buyers to find a home; an average of 39 days compared to the usual 59.

As the spring surge gathers momentum, home-moving activity continues to ramp up, with new listings up 11% in the last three weeks compared to the same period last year, and home-valuation requests increasing by 27% since the start of the year compared to the last.

The race for space also continues, with Rightmove saying searches for gardens have jumped 70% in two years as more people continue to look for outdoor space.

What does it mean for buyers?

While this is welcome news for any would-be sellers as they’re more likely to achieve their asking price (or more), it also means that competition between buyers will continue to be fierce - so if you are looking to move, you need to ensure to have your ducks in a row.
